ARTIST Léon Spilliaert
TITLE The gust of wind
YEAR after 1904

The Cry of Inner Passion

A single woman screaming, her dress and hair fluttering violently in the fierce sea gusts.
This is an extremely emotional work representing his early period, painted by Spilliaert in his hometown port city of Ostend.
This scene of a fierce storm evokes the anxiety and loneliness swirling in his own heart, and the strong vitality trying to overcome them.
The use of deep, dramatic "black," which shows a major influence from Odilon Redon, gives a strong impression that shakes the viewer's soul.
The overwhelming power of nature and the lonely beauty of humans confronting it are dramatically sublimated in the night light.

Sharp Perspective and Wavy Lines Bringing Pleasant Stimulation to the Space

The stairs of the breakwater rising at a steep angle and the geometric lines depicting the swell of the wind invite the viewer deep into the screen.
The contrast between light and jet black layered with ink, watercolor, and gouache (opaque watercolor) gives an overwhelming artistic sense to the wall of the room.
By decorating it in a modern living room or a chic study, a tightened energy is born throughout the room.
It is a masterpiece that I wholeheartedly recommend to those who want to incorporate slightly bold and refined art into their everyday interior.

Léon Spilliaert

Léon Spilliaert

1881 - 1946

Born in Belgium in 1881, Léon Spilliaert was a solitary Symbolist painter who captured the silence of the night and the introspective psychology of humanity through ink and pastel.

Throughout his life, he continually captured deserted coastlines illuminated by moonlight, geometrically distorted dark interiors, and his own profound isolation.

The realms woven by deeply sinking tones of black and blue brim with an overwhelming stillness and a sweet melancholy that seems to absorb the viewer.

These intellectual aesthetics liberate the mind from the clamor of modern life, bringing exquisite serenity and mysterious depth to private spaces.

  • Reduces UV-induced fading

We use standard acrylic panels, which are ideal for displaying valuable artwork. These panels block approximately 90% of UV rays from indoor lighting and windows, suppressing artwork degradation and preserving the vivid colors when you receive them for a long time.

  • Overwhelming reproducibility that even captures the artist's brushstrokes.

We've adopted a special printing technique that faithfully reproduces even the author's brushstrokes and layers of ink. Rich colors, 16.77 million of them, are laid upon paper with a moist texture that absorbs light. The work can be clearly enjoyed from any angle, without reflections even by a window or under lighting, preserving its original texture.

  • Reliable Delivery and After-Sales Support

To ensure the safe delivery of delicate artworks, we use special shock-absorbing cushioning and reinforced cardboard. In the unlikely event of damage during shipping, please rest assured that we will respond promptly.
