TITLE Gabrielle d'Estrées et une de ses sœurs

The Beautiful Mystery Surrounding Love and Bloodline That Shook the French Court

This portrait, representing the School of Fontainebleau that blossomed in the French court in the late 16th century, is one of the most famous and enigmatic masterpieces in art history.
Two beautiful women sitting side by side in a bathtub.
It is said that the one on the right is Gabrielle d'Estrées, the favorite mistress deeply loved by King Henry IV of France, and the one on the left is a woman presumed to be her sister, the Duchess of Villars, or Madame de Balagny.

The very unique gesture of the sister gently pinching Gabrielle's right nipple is often interpreted as a symbol of pregnancy, foreshadowing the birth of the illegitimate child César de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme, born later.
Also, the small ring Gabrielle holds in her left hand is said to be proof of a promise of marriage given by the King.

On the other hand, according to another hypothesis, there is an interpretation that this might depict Henriette d'Entragues, who became the King's favorite after her.
The wet nurse sewing quietly deep in the background and the fire in the fireplace evoke the warmth of family breathing in the cold court and the daily life shrouded in secrets.

Dramatic Classical Modernity Brought by Vivid Colors and Stylistic Beauty

What dominates the screen is the breathtakingly beautiful contrast between the porcelain-like smooth whiteness of the skin and the crimson curtains dramatically surrounding the bathtub.
The extremely stylized, elongated bodies and elegant facial features embody the unrealistic and intellectual beauty that was the trend of the time.
By decorating this work, you can instantly create a classical and refined atmosphere, just like a private palace.

It harmonizes very well with a study with a deep green sofa or heavy leather chairs, or an adult bedroom unified in slightly dark tones. It is also perfect for stores such as bars and cafes. It is art that catches the viewer's eye.

Its overwhelming presence and mysterious beauty will surely give dramatic depth and refined individuality to the space.

School of Fontainebleau

about 1530 - about 1610

The School of Fontainebleau was an artistic collective born in the 16th century when Italian geniuses were invited to the French court.
Fusing the nobility of the Renaissance with the sensual beauty of elongated physiques, they adorned the court with resplendent magnificence.

What they created was a realm of graceful mythological deities and visionary, mysterious decorative motifs. Born from the intersection of French sensibility and the Mannerist masters summoned from Italy, this style invites the viewer into a noble, extraordinary realm.

Even in our contemporary lives, this overwhelming aesthetic consciousness and gracefully ornate nature bring a sophisticated, courtly brilliance to interiors, brimming with the charm to elegantly dress up any surrounding space.

  • Reduces UV-induced fading

We use standard acrylic panels, which are ideal for displaying valuable artwork. These panels block approximately 90% of UV rays from indoor lighting and windows, suppressing artwork degradation and preserving the vivid colors when you receive them for a long time.

  • Overwhelming reproducibility that even captures the artist's brushstrokes.

We've adopted a special printing technique that faithfully reproduces even the author's brushstrokes and layers of ink. Rich colors, 16.77 million of them, are laid upon paper with a moist texture that absorbs light. The work can be clearly enjoyed from any angle, without reflections even by a window or under lighting, preserving its original texture.

  • Reliable Delivery and After-Sales Support

To ensure the safe delivery of delicate artworks, we use special shock-absorbing cushioning and reinforced cardboard. In the unlikely event of damage during shipping, please rest assured that we will respond promptly.
