Édouard Vuillard, representing the French painter group "Les Nabis," was a genius at depicting intimate scenes of daily life like beautiful dreams.
This work, "In Bed," is a monumental work on a large canvas that deeply explores the themes of "sleep" and "fading consciousness" that the Symbolist movement of the time deeply loved.
Above the head of the figure sleeping quietly in bed, a part of a cross hung on the wall is slightly visible.
