A Veil of Silence Snuggling up to Sorrow

Carlos Schwabe, a symbolist painter born in Germany and raised in Geneva, is also considered a pioneer of Art Nouveau, and is a symbolist painter who gently and poetically depicted the deep spirituality of the soul and the journey of the heart.

Depicted is a corner of a cemetery welcoming "All Saints' Day" (a solemn holiday remembering the deceased) on November 1st.
A woman grieving in front of a tombstone is covered by a long vine-like curtain as if dividing her, adding a quiet and decorative beauty to the place of mourning.

At the top of the screen, a triangle is placed within a ray of light, and various mystical symbols are depicted. Also, at the bottom left, the painter's own signature is engraved on a stone pedestal, giving it a solemn appearance like an epitaph.
